CLEAR ADHESIVE BONDS
Transparent double-sided tape for visible bonds
Transparent double-sided tape joins components where the bond line remains visible. Select its construction and thickness for the surfaces, loads and desired appearance; edges and trapped air also affect the result.

Selection criteria
What matters in a visible adhesive bond?
Start with the two components, their surfaces and the view of the bond line. Transparency alone does not determine the appearance: the carrier and adhesive, tape thickness, edge profile and application without trapped air must suit the design. Loads and environmental conditions determine which specific tape may be suitable.

CHOOSING TAPE FOR VISIBLE AREAS
Assess thickness, edges and application together
A transparent polyester carrier can support handling and dimensional stability during cutting or die cutting; another tape construction may serve a different joining task. The visible bond line also depends on surface preparation, the shape of the cut and how the tape is pressed into place. Trapped air and creases are particularly noticeable on visible surfaces, so apply the tape carefully from a starting edge.
Krückemeyer GmbH can convert suitable tapes into widths and die-cut parts tailored to the application. Tell us about the two components, surfaces, visible area, geometry, loads and application steps. Suitability must be checked on the specific material and component.

QUESTIONS ABOUT VISIBLE BONDS
Is transparent double-sided tape invisible after application?
No. Transparency alone does not make a bond invisible. On a visible bond line, the tape edge, thickness, trapped air and substrate may still be noticeable. The carrier and adhesive also affect the appearance. For a visible component, assess a sample on the actual parts and include the planned application method. Choose transparent double-sided tape for both the appearance required and the technical load, rather than by colour alone.
How does tape thickness affect a visible edge?
Tape thickness changes the gap between the joined components and therefore the appearance of the edge. A thin polyester carrier may suit a flat bond line; other constructions may address different geometry or load requirements. The term “transparent” does not indicate a single thickness. Check the dimensions and construction in the relevant product record and assess the edge on the actual component. With cut shapes, the quality of the cut also matters for a visible outline.
How can trapped air be reduced in a transparent bond?
Controlled application from a starting edge helps prevent air and creases becoming trapped beneath the tape. The surfaces must suit the chosen product and be prepared accordingly; pressure should bring the adhesive into close contact with the substrate. Laying down the whole tape before pressing it can encourage trapped air. For transparent double-sided tape on visible areas, try the planned application on the actual component geometry before specifying the process.
What information does Krückemeyer need for cut or die-cut parts?
Describe both components and their surfaces, the visible area, the required shape and the loads on the bond. Dimensions, drawings, tolerances and the intended application method also help when planning conversion. Krückemeyer GmbH can cut suitable double-sided tapes or supply die-cut parts. Whether a transparent option suits the appearance and technical requirements is checked against the specific product and component. A trial application helps assess the edge and possible trapped air before the design is fixed.
