TRANSFER TAPE · ADHESIVE LAYER AND LINER
Transfer tape for thin adhesive bonds
Transfer tape applies an adhesive layer to a component with a removable protective liner. Choose by layer thickness, adhesive, liner and processing method – Krückemeyer GmbH will assess the suitable product and conversion with you.

Selection criteria
Check thickness, liner and construction before choosing
First examine both surfaces and the adhesive layer thickness required. A transfer tape may have no separate carrier; the range also includes reinforced constructions. The liner protects the adhesive until application and affects how the material is fed, removed and processed further.

Choosing transfer tape
Which transfer tape suits your component?
A thin adhesive layer helps when the bond must add little thickness. Surface energy, load and intended service life also matter. Product data distinguish carrier-free films from scrim-reinforced constructions; transfer tapes are therefore not automatically suitable for the same parts or processes. For a brand-specific selection, see the tesa transfer tape and 3M transfer tape ranges.
If the material needs to be cut or made into die-cut parts, specify dimensions, outline and required delivery format. Krückemeyer GmbH assesses the material and handling for your application. See Cutting and slitting and Die cutting for the processes.

Questions on construction and processing
What is the liner on a transfer tape?
The liner is the removable protective covering over the adhesive layer. It is part of handling before and during application and is not the same as a permanent carrier. The tesafix 4985 product information specifies release paper as the covering and no carrier. Other transfer constructions use a polyester film liner. Check the specific product to see how the liner is wound and when it should be removed in your process. This is especially relevant when feeding a continuous web or processing die-cut parts.
Are all transfer tapes carrier-free?
No. A carrier-free adhesive film is a common construction, but the term transfer tape does not define every internal structure. The tesafix 4985 product information explicitly states that the carrier material is absent. Another documented construction includes a polyester scrim within the adhesive film to support dimensional stability and processing. Compare the carrier, adhesive and liner specifications before selecting transfer tape for a thin bond line or an automated application process.
Which thickness is suitable for a thin bond?
The suitable thickness depends on the parts being joined, the required overall build and the available bonding area. The range includes, for example, carrier-free tesafix 4985 Transfer at 50 µm and tesa 75507 at 75 µm. These are values for specific products, not a general thickness range for transfer tape. A thinner layer alone does not demonstrate better adhesion or suitability for rough surfaces. Check the adhesive and product data against your surfaces and the load on the finished bond.
What details are needed for cut lengths or die-cut parts?
Identify the intended transfer tape or describe both parts, their surfaces and the required function of the bond. For cutting, give the dimensions and delivery format; for a die-cut part, also give the outline and the processing step at which the liner will be removed. Krückemeyer GmbH converts suitable materials into application-specific sizes and shapes. The suitability of a particular transfer material for your geometry and operating conditions is assessed against the material and application.
