FOAM CARRIER · DOUBLE-SIDED TAPE
Double-sided foam tape for accommodating surface differences
Double-sided foam tape joins components using a compliant carrier. Surface materials, the required thickness and the load on the bond guide the selection. Krückemeyer GmbH advises on the design and suitable cut pieces.

Selection criteria
Start with the carrier, thickness and joining surfaces
A foam carrier can bridge small surface irregularities and cushion impacts. Its specific construction, adhesive, both surfaces and the intended load are decisive. Compare thickness only in relation to the gap and available bonding area; thickness alone does not tell you how well the bond will hold.

APPLICATION-BASED SELECTION
Which foam construction suits the bond?
For trims, emblems or control elements, a compliant foam carrier can accommodate irregularities and absorb impacts. Check the substrate, bonding area, direction of force and service environment as well. A foam tape coated with adhesive on both sides is not automatically a viscoelastic acrylic foam system. Tell Krückemeyer GmbH the component dimensions and processing step: we will assess the material choice and whether a roll size, cut piece or die-cut part suits your application.

QUESTIONS ABOUT FOAM TAPE
When does double-sided foam tape help with uneven surfaces?
Double-sided foam tape may be suitable when a compliant carrier needs to bridge small differences between surfaces. Foam carriers are also used to accommodate gaps and absorb impacts. The amount of compensation depends on the specific product construction and the gap between the components. Assess both surfaces, the bonding area and the load together. A thicker tape is therefore not automatically more suitable.
How does foam tape differ from acrylic foam tape?
In conventional foam tape, a foam carrier has adhesive on its surfaces. Acrylic foam systems have a different, viscoelastic construction. This distinction matters for stress compensation and material selection; the word “foam” alone does not imply the same performance. For double-sided foam tape, check the stated carrier and adhesive of the specific product rather than applying properties of another system to the entire range.
What information helps you select a suitable version?
Tell us about both components and their surfaces, the available bonding area, the gap, and the type and direction of load. Describe the service environment and processing too: should the double-sided foam tape be supplied as a roll, cut piece or die-cut part? Krückemeyer GmbH can convert suitable tapes into application-specific sizes and shapes. Whether the selected tape is suitable for the bond must be checked against the actual materials and service conditions.
Can a foam carrier both cushion impacts and seal a joint?
A suitable foam carrier can cushion impacts. Certain products can also seal against dust and moisture. Whether a joint remains sealed depends on the selected material, geometry, joining surface and actual exposure. If sealing is required, specify the type and duration of exposure so we can assess the complete bond.
