Selection criteria

Choose transparent tesa tapes by construction and appearance

Start with the two substrates and their surfaces: a transparent PET film carrier with acrylic adhesive has a different construction from a transparent acrylic core. For a visible bond, adhesion is only part of the decision; tape thickness, the appearance of the edge and the release liner also matter. Select the tape shape and joining sequence so that it can be applied evenly and air entrapment can be avoided.

CHOOSING A VISIBLE BOND

Which transparent tesa construction suits the bond?

A thin PET film tape keeps the bond line low; a heavier adhesive coat changes both thickness and the visible edge. The tesa Team 4965 includes transparent PET options of different thicknesses. For glass or transparent plastics, transparent tesa ACXplus acrylic core tapes may also be considered, depending on the load. Even with transparent tape, the cut edge may remain visible; air can also become trapped during joining. State the materials, visible area, edge requirements, load and assembly sequence. Krückemeyer GmbH can then assess the tape and a suitable converted format, such as a cut length or die-cut part.

QUESTIONS ABOUT TRANSPARENT BONDING

How do transparent tesa film tapes differ?

They differ in thickness, release liner and adhesive coat, among other features. Transparent tesa 4965 Original Next Gen has a PET carrier and a modified acrylic adhesive. Within Team 4965, tesa 59650 Thin is a thinner PET option and tesa 59651 Thick is a thicker one. This changes the bond line and may change how the edge looks. The right option for your component also depends on both surfaces, the required adhesion and the joining sequence. Check the specific product data on each item before selecting a tape.

Why can the edge of a transparent bond remain visible?

Transparent adhesive does not make the entire bond optically disappear. Tape thickness, the cut edge, component geometry and viewing direction affect how clearly an edge can be seen. On a visible component, assess the bond line and the exposed edge separately. Tell Krückemeyer GmbH which areas are visible and what contour you need so the tape construction and cut format can be assessed for that geometry. A sample on the actual component shows the optical result more clearly than the colour stated in the product listing.

How should air entrapment be considered during application?

Plan the joining sequence and even application for the actual surface. Trapped air can be an optical defect in a visible bond; transparent tape colour does not prevent it. Check how the release liner will be removed, which side of the components will be joined first and whether the geometry permits controlled application. For converted parts, shape and handling matter as much as the adhesive choice. Describe your assembly sequence in the enquiry so that the format can be assessed against it.

What information is needed for a transparent cut part?

Provide both components and their surfaces, the visible area and edge, and the shape required for the bond. Add the load, service environment and application method. For a cut length or die-cut part, geometry and supply format are also relevant. Krückemeyer GmbH can convert suitable adhesive tapes; whether a specific transparent tesa tape meets the needs of your component and its appearance must be checked against those details. The product listing provides a starting point for the available options.
