Selection criteria

How will the bond be exposed to water?

Distinguish occasional moisture from direct water contact, and specify how long and where the bond will be exposed. Then check both parts, their surfaces, the bonding area and the loads on the joint. The tesa range includes different constructions, such as PE foam with acrylic adhesive and closed-cell acrylic foam systems. The product-specific specification determines suitability, not the “waterproof” attribute alone.

CHOOSING FOR WATER EXPOSURE

Assess material resistance and the complete bond separately

tesa 61053 is a black, double-sided acrylic foam tape for display and touch-panel mounting. Its product information describes the closed-cell core as sealing against water. tesa ACXplus 07805 is intended for exterior attachments; according to the manufacturer, its acrylic foam core offers high UV and moisture resistance. The two versions differ in construction and application. These product properties do not amount to a blanket promise that a finished component will be watertight.

For selection, tell us the type and duration of water contact, both parts, their surfaces, the load and the desired bonding geometry. Krückemeyer GmbH can cut suitable tapes to size or convert them into die-cut parts. Together, we assess the material, edge and joint for your intended application result.

QUESTIONS ABOUT MOISTURE AND WATER

What does “waterproof” mean for tesa double-sided tape?

The property must be documented for the specific version. For tesa ACXplus 07805, the product information states high moisture resistance and describes a closed-cell acrylic foam core that seals against water. tesa 61053 also describes a core that seals against water. This does not establish that every adhesive joint is watertight: the substrate, edges, bonding area and exposure all need to be assessed as part of the complete bond.

What water exposure should I describe when choosing tape?

State the type and duration of exposure, such as intermittent moisture or direct water contact, and where the joint is located. Both surfaces, their preparation, the bonding area and later loads also matter for technical selection. With those details, the resistance of a particular tesa tape and the construction of the adhesive joint can be assessed for your application.

How do tesa 61053 and tesa ACXplus 07805 differ?

tesa 61053 is a black acrylic foam tape for display and touch-panel mounting; its product information mentions a closed-cell core and use on components designed to resist water. tesa ACXplus 07805 is a deep-black acrylic foam tape for exterior attachments and can accommodate different expansion of the bonded parts. Choose according to surfaces, geometry, exposure and the relevant product information, rather than their shared moisture-related attribute alone.

Can a cut tape make the finished joint watertight?

A cut or die-cut part defines shape and bonding area; it does not create an additional material property. Krückemeyer GmbH can cut suitable tapes for processing and supply them as die-cut parts. Whether the finished joint keeps water out depends on the tape, both parts, edge design and installation conditions. Tell us your component geometry and water exposure so we can assess an appropriate version.
