Selection criteria

What must the mounting bond achieve?

Start with both parts: their materials and surfaces determine adhesive contact. Then assess the area available for bonding and whether the joint faces tensile, shear or peel forces. A thin PET film backing keeps the bond flat; a PE foam backing can accommodate slight surface irregularities. Suitable acrylic foam versions can help absorb stresses between parts. Fitness for use depends on the individual product and service conditions.

CHOOSING A MOUNTING TAPE

Assess area, backing and load together

High initial tack alone does not describe how a bond behaves under load. A PET film tape may suit flat parts; a suitable foam backing is another option for slight surface irregularities. Viscoelastic acrylic foam versions can absorb stresses caused by movement between parts. The two surfaces, usable bonding area, load direction and conditions during application and service remain decisive.

If width or shape matters in your process, we can assess suitable tesa tapes for slitting or die-cut parts. Tell us about the parts, surfaces and load in the consultation form; material and geometry are checked for each converted format. For a broader view, see double-sided mounting tapes and double-sided tesa tapes.

MOUNTING TAPE QUESTIONS

What information is needed to choose a tesa mounting tape?

Start with both parts, their surfaces and the area available for bonding. Explain how the joint will be loaded: tensile, shear and possible peel forces create different demands. Conditions during application and later service also matter. tesa mounting tapes use different backings and adhesives, so the brand name alone cannot establish suitability. With these details, we can assess the tape construction and a suitable supply format for your mounting task.

When is a foam backing useful for mounting?

A suitable PE foam backing can accommodate slight irregularities between parts and help the adhesive make contact. This differs from a flat bond made with a thin PET film tape. Foam tapes still vary in construction and adhesive. The required area, load and surfaces must therefore be checked for the specific tesa mounting tape. A foam backing does not replace assessment of the complete bond under its intended service conditions.

How does load direction affect an adhesive bond?

Load direction tells you what forces the bond must withstand in service. A joint loaded across its area and one subjected to peeling at an edge present different tasks. Product selection must therefore consider area, part geometry and load together. The manufacturer specifies properties such as initial tack and shear strength for individual tesa mounting tapes, but these properties alone do not establish fitness for every assembly. Tell us the installation position and load case so we can narrow down a suitable version.

Can tesa mounting tape be supplied as cut tape or die-cut parts?

Krückemeyer GmbH can slit suitable tapes and process them into die-cut parts. This can adapt the bonding area to the part shape and make handling fit the assembly process. The appropriate format depends on the chosen material, geometry and required supply form. Tell us about both parts, the planned bonding area and your application step. We can then assess whether slit tape or die-cut parts are suitable for your tesa mounting tape application.

05

Request advice

Describe both parts, their surfaces, the usable bonding area and the direction of the load. We will assess a suitable tape and whether slit tape or die-cut parts support your assembly process.
