3M · REMOVABLE BONDS
3M removable double-sided tape for temporary assembly
You need to secure components and separate the bond later. Choose 3M double-sided tape based on the surfaces, service life and load; we can help assess the removal method and suitable supply format.
01
Selection criteria
Check the surface and removal method before choosing tape
Both parts matter in a temporary assembly: how strong are their surfaces, how long must the bond last, and in which direction will the load act? Decide whether a rigid part will be separated or a flexible part peeled away. For 3M 4658F, undamaged removal expressly depends on the internal strength of the substrate.

CHOOSE A 3M TAPE
3M tapes for removable fixing
The range includes removable 3M products such as yellow 4656F and transparent 4658F. Compare versions and dimensions for your assembly, then check removal suitability on the actual component.

PLAN FOR REMOVAL
Design for adhesion and subsequent separation
The product information for 3M 4658F lists signs, displays and exhibition materials among its applications. It describes the tape as removable from both sides when the joined materials have sufficient internal strength. Paper, cardboard and wallpaper can be damaged during removal; this tape is not recommended for materials containing plasticisers. Repositionability and residue-free removal are therefore not universal properties of every 3M tape in this range. Check the specific version against your surfaces, service life and planned dismantling method.
If width, shape or handling matter in your production process, tell us the required supply format. Krückemeyer GmbH can assess cut rolls or die-cut parts in relation to the material and application.

UNDERSTAND 3M TAPE
What determines whether 3M 4658F can be removed?
It chiefly depends on the internal strength of the bonded surface. The 3M product information describes removal from both sides for materials with high resistance to splitting. If that strength is insufficient, the surface can delaminate as the bond is separated. Test the planned removal on both parts under the actual conditions of use. The product name alone does not guarantee damage-free dismantling.
How do removable, repositionable and reusable differ?
Removable means that a bond can be separated later under the intended conditions. Repositionable describes the ability to adjust its position during application; 3M states that 4658F can be repositioned if needed. Reusable would additionally mean that the same tape can be applied again after removal. Neither removability nor repositionability establishes that property. Clarify which step your process actually requires.
Which surfaces are critical when the bond must be removed?
For 3M 4658F, the product information names paper, cardboard, plasterboard, wallpaper and veneered surfaces as examples with low internal strength. They may be damaged during separation. The specific component still matters for stronger materials; low surface energy plastics such as PP and PE require testing for the particular application. For a sensitive surface, test the intended service life and removal movement before series use.
What information helps with a converted tape format?
Provide both materials and surfaces, the required service life and the load while the bond is in use. Explain whether rigid or flexible parts will be separated and how dismantling is planned. For cut rolls or die-cut parts, include the shape, dimensions and handling requirements in your process. Krückemeyer GmbH can then assess tape selection and supply format with you for the application.
