3M VHB · LOW SURFACE ENERGY MATERIALS
3M VHB LSE tape for low surface energy materials
The 3M VHB LSE family is designed for bonding plastics with low surface energy, such as polypropylene, TPO and TPE. Choose the version according to both joining surfaces, tape thickness and load; this does not mean it is suitable for every plastic.
01
Selection criteria
Which surface must the 3M LSE tape bond?
First identify the actual surfaces of both parts to be joined. For VHB LSE, 3M names polypropylene (PP), thermoplastic olefins (TPO), thermoplastic elastomers (TPE) and composite materials, among others. The product family includes LSE-060WF, LSE-110WF and LSE-160WF in different thicknesses. The available bonding area, direction of force, joint geometry and conditions during application and use also matter when choosing a tape.

CHOOSING FOR LSE SURFACES
Assess tape thickness and joining surfaces together
The listed LSE versions differ in tape thickness: LSE-060WF is specified as 0.6 mm, LSE-110WF as 1.1 mm and LSE-160WF as 1.6 mm. Thickness is a selection criterion for the joint and component geometry, but it does not replace testing the bond under the actual load. Primer-free application on the LSE materials named by 3M is no guarantee for every plastic or surface coating.
For implementation, you can discuss roll width, shape and handling with Krückemeyer GmbH. Suitable tapes can be cut to width or converted into die-cut parts for your application step. Describe the joining parts, surfaces and conditions of use in the consultation form; we will assess the product and supplied format for your application.

QUESTIONS ABOUT 3M VHB LSE
Which low surface energy materials is 3M VHB LSE intended for?
3M names plastics with low surface energy for the VHB LSE family, including polypropylene (PP), thermoplastic olefins (TPO), thermoplastic elastomers (TPE) and composite materials. These examples describe the intended area of use. Whether a specific component can be bonded also depends on its actual surface, coating, cleanliness and the load on the joint. Identify both parts and their surfaces before specifying a tape for a design.
Can 3M LSE tapes be used without primer on every plastic?
No. The manufacturer describes the VHB LSE family for certain low surface energy materials and states that bonding without an adhesion promoter is possible for this group of materials. This is not a general promise for all plastics. Where formulations, coatings or release-agent residues are unknown, the actual component surface must be assessed. 3M also points to adhesion promoters for critical surfaces. Decide on surface preparation only after checking the specific product and both joining parts.
How do LSE-060WF, LSE-110WF and LSE-160WF differ?
The documented distinction within the listed 3M VHB LSE range is tape thickness: LSE-060WF is specified as 0.6 mm, LSE-110WF as 1.1 mm and LSE-160WF as 1.6 mm. All three belong to the white, double-sided VHB LSE family. Greater thickness, however, does not automatically mean greater load capacity for every joint. The suitable version depends on both surfaces, the joint, the bonding area and the forces acting in use.
What information does Krückemeyer need for an LSE cut roll or die-cut part?
Describe both joining parts and their actual surfaces, the available bonding area and the load on the joint. For conversion, specify the desired roll width or contour and explain how the tape will be applied in your process. Krückemeyer GmbH can cut suitable tapes and produce die-cut parts. The appropriate supplied format is assessed together with the material and application; cutting the tape does not change its adhesive properties.
