Selection criteria

Which tape suits the floor covering and installation period?

Start with the carpet backing or PVC flooring, the substrate and when the covering must be removed. tesa Professional 4939 is designed for temporary textile flooring; its two adhesive sides have different bonding strengths. tesa 51960 combines a film and fabric backing with differentiated adhesion for edge and joint bonding of carpet, PVC and CV flooring. Extra strong versions are described for more heavily used flooring, but they cannot generally be removed without residue.

CHOOSING FLOOR LAYING TAPE

Assess adhesion and later removal separately

For tesa Professional 4939, near residue free removal is described only for suitable substrates and a limited period of use; natural and artificial stone require an individual test beforehand. tesa 51960 is designed for edge and joint bonding of carpet, PVC and CV flooring and can be removed from a suitable substrate largely without residue under appropriate conditions. By contrast, the product information for extra strong tesa floor laying tape states that it is not removable without residue. Choose by floor covering, substrate, duration and removal conditions, rather than by the term “laying tape” alone.

For suitable roll widths or die cuts, we can assess the material, geometry and application with you. Describe your floor laying task in the consultation form; for other backing materials, see double sided fabric tape.

QUESTIONS ABOUT TESA FLOOR LAYING TAPE

Which tesa tape is suitable for temporary carpet flooring?

tesa Professional 4939 is described for temporarily laying textile carpet at events. Its PET fabric backing and adhesive sides with different bonding strengths combine adhesion to the carpet with later removal from the substrate. According to the product information, near residue free removal is limited to up to 14 days and suitable surfaces; natural and artificial stone require an individual test. Check the actual period of use, the condition of the substrate and the planned removal method before using the tape.

What should I consider when laying PVC and CV flooring?

tesa 51960 professional floor laying tape is described for edge and joint bonding of PVC and CV flooring. It combines a PP film and fabric backing with adhesive sides of different strengths: the covering should stay in place while the tape can later be removed from a suitable substrate largely without residue. The substrate must be level, firmly attached, clean and permanently dry, and free from grease and wax. This product is not suitable for natural stone. Define the covering, substrate and intended period of use before making a selection.

Can extra strong tesa floor laying tape be removed without residue?

No. The product information for the extra strong version explicitly states that it is not removable without residue. It is described for heavily used carpet and PVC flooring and may also be suitable for damp rooms and underfloor heating. These statements apply to that particular version, not to every tesa floor laying tape. If later removal without residue is essential, consider a version designed for that purpose and check the covering, substrate and bonding period.

What information is needed for advice on a converted laying tape?

Tell us the floor covering and its backing, the exact substrate, the period of use and whether the bond must later be removed. Include the required tape width or shape and the steps in your installation process. Krückemeyer GmbH can cut suitable adhesive tapes to size or supply die cuts. The appropriate product and delivery form depend on the selected material, geometry and application; the desired removability must be checked for the specific construction.
